
Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - With extremely cold temperatures set to bear down on Richmond and other parts of Central Virginia this week, the City of Richmond has announced that the Inclement Weather Shelter will stay open continuously throughout this week.
In a release, the city said the Salvation Army has expanded the operating hours of the Inclement Weather Shelter due to the upcoming "arctic blast." Experts say we’ll experience the coldest weather of the season through mid-week.
For this reason, the shelter will stay open until 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 without any disruption of services.
The locations and capacities for the inclement weather shelters are listed below:
Inclement Weather Shelter (Salvation Army)
• Location: 1900 Chamberlayne Parkway
• Capacity: Single adult men and women (66 men, 40 women)

Inclement Weather Overflow Shelter (The city and Daily Planet Health Services)
• Location: 900 E. Marshall Street
• Capacity: Single adult men, women and families (59 beds)
Stormtracker8 meteorologists say it will be extremely cold through mid-week, with highs only in the mid- to- upper 20s. Overnight temperatures will fall into the low teens. With the wind chill, temperatures will feel even colder.
On Thursday, high temperatures will start inching up into the 30s and 40s. The cold air will moderate even more heading into the weekend, when highs will return to the mid 40s Saturday and near 50 on Sunday.
