Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Democrats and Republicans are in a pitched battle, and an expensive battle, over control of the General Assembly, but with two weeks to go before Election Day, something has united them: James Madison University football. The university is currently undefeated, and ranked in the top 25, but also ineligible for a bowl game because it is in the second year of transitioning to a higher division.
On Monday, Senate President Pro Tem Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth) tweeted that the NCAA would find the atmosphere in Virginia "unfriendly" in JMU's situation wasn't rectified. House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) then retweeted it, adding "very unfriendly."
The NCAA recently defended its timeline to Attorney General Jason Miyares (R), saying that it allows for strategic growth. The NCAA also says it gives the schools time to meet the requirements of moving up a division.
