Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Day three of the Amari Pollard trial was emotional and eventful.
Pollard faces first degree murder and other charges in the death of Shawn Jackson outside of Huguenot’s graduation last year. Jackson’s stepfather was also killed and five others were wounded in the incident.
On Wednesday, the jury saw video from police body cameras, VCU buildIngs, parking decks, plus police interrogation footage and surveillance footage from outside of the Altria Theater where the shooting took place on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
The prosecuting attorneys and several witnesses said it was clear that Pollard shot Jackson in the back as he ran away. The prosecution is trying to prove that Pollard intentionally shot and killed Jackson.
The defense, meanwhile, is trying to prove that Pollard acted in self-defense. Yesterday the defense focused on police body camera footage showing Pollard telling an officer he was scared for his life.
It is still not known whether Pollard will take the stand himself.
