Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras says the decision to take the entire first week of November off was made in the interest of their employees' mental health. He also says they were concerned that many teachers were going to take the two days school was in session that week off as mental health time, and that staff shortages would compromise Covid protocols.
Buildings were already closed three days that week for Election Day, the Hindu Holiday Diwali, and virtual parent-teacher conferences. Kamras, in a letter to Richmond School families, says he apologizes for the late notice.
Kamras says other adjustments are being made to try and alleviate stress on teacher workdays as well, including hiring additional lunch monitors to free up teacher time.
