Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- After a multi-hour standoff on Glenside Drive in Henrico, police took the driver of a 1992 Winnebago into custody.

The suspect, now identified as Wayne Alvis of Henrico, was released from Piedmont Regional Jail on Thursday. The suspect's wife has a protective order against him, according to King William County Sheriff Jeff Walton. King William County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call that the suspect had breeched that protective order.

When deputies arrived at the house in question, the suspect fled the scene in a 1992 Winnebago RV that he and his wife own. In the ensuing chase, deputies followed the RV through King William, Hanover, Henrico, back onto the interstate, and eventually back into Henrico, where the suspect ran out of gas at the intersection of Glenside Drive and Bethlehem Road. Police say he struck pursuant deputy's vehicles twice during the chase.

Virginia State Police took over the chase at about 2:30 AM Friday morning, after the suspect entered Henrico County. Upon running out of gas, the suspect barricaded himself in the Winnebago. After a several hours of negotiation, State Police managed to take him into custody. Alvis now faces a number of charges, including eluding and assault on a law enforcement officer.
