Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- In one of his final acts as Governor, Governor Ralph Northam (D) has declared a State of Emergency as Covid cases and hospitalizations continue to rise. The Emergency is limited to 30 days and will help hospital and health care workers deal with the increasing cases.

Under the State of Emergency, out-of-state licensed doctors will be allowed to practice in Virginia, and hospitals will be allowed to increase their bed capacity. The order is limited to 30 days because Northam says we are expected to peak in early February.

Northam says he has spoken to incoming Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin about the pandemic. Youngkin takes over on Saturday.
