Mecklenburg, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A state police investigation is underway after a trooper shot and killed a suspect in Mecklenburg County.
On Sunday, June 8, just before 4 p.m., officers were called for a "suspicious situation" along highway 903 in Mecklenburg County. A pursuit ensued, then the car crashed in an open field. At that point, the suspect showed a knife, refused to comply with commands and was shot.
The suspect, who died at the scene, was identified Monday as 39-year-old Derek C. Holland of Cary, North Carolina.
State police say the trooper involved has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
