Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - State police are investigating after a man was shot and killed during a crash involving two tractor trailers.

The incident took place on I-295 South at around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31. Virginia State Police (VSP) say a man was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound. The man has been identified as 58-year-old Silvio Sobrinho.

Authorities believe Sobrinho was driving a tractor-trailer in the left lane when another tractor-trailer in the center lane “made contact” with Sobrinho’s vehicle and forced it to veer off the road. The truck stopped when it hit a metal guardrail.

Police said the other tractor-trailer driver drove up alongside Sobrinho’s crashed truck and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle, hitting and killing Sobrinho before fleeing the scene. Police found “several bullet holes” in the passenger side of Sobrinho’s tractor.

The truck that hit Sobrinho’s vehicle has been described to state police as white with green lettering. It has not yet been located.

Police also said that Sobrinho was found “slumped over the steering wheel” by a witness that was in a northbound tractor-trailer, who had seen the crash and approached the scene. An attempt at CPR was performed, but medical personnel later pronounced him dead.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 804-750-8758.

Sobrinho's family has set up a GoFundMe to benefit his wife and daughters after their "unimaginable loss."
