Sandston, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Henrico Firefighters say a dog died, and a man had to be rescued, in an overnight fire in the East End. The fire started around 12:30am on East Berry Street.
Firefighters say once they arrived, they were told one man was trapped in the home in a bedroom. He was rescued through a window and taken to the hospital, where he is expected to survive. Two dogs were also found, one died and the other received treatment.
The fire started in the kitchen area, but firefighters do not yet have a cause. They do say that the fact the bedroom door was closed helped protect the man during the blaze.
