Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A man is in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries after he was shot by two Richmond police officers during a traffic stop on Thursday.

Just after 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2600 block of Melbourne Street. According to police, the vehicle they were stopping had been reported stolen.

Police did not provide any information on what led to shots being fired, but both officers fired their weapons during the stop.

“During the course of the traffic stop, two RPD officers discharged their service weapon, striking the driver,” a police spokesperson said.

Officers reportedly gave the driver medical attention while waiting for emergency medical personnel to take him to the hospital.

The two officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, which is underway.
