Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com)- Richmond's mayor, Levar Stoney, took the time to address misconceptions going on around school construction after he recently wrote a letter to the city council's president and vice president, as well as to RPS's school board chair and vice chair, asking them to please cooperate with one another for the students' best interest.

Stoney outlined the two methods approved by the state for constructing schools, which are design, bid, build and construction management at- risk.

Mayor Stoney spoke to the pros and cons of each and stressed time and cost as the determining factors. George Wythe High School was the main topic of the discussion.

According to him, RPS uses design, bid, build, which takes longer and doesn't give a price for the work before it's done. Mayor Stoney said that last summer he and the City of Richmond offered to assist RPS with building the schools using their designs. Stoney said that although RPS eventually declined the offer, it still strands today.

Mayor Stoney will not be attending the meeting tonight, but he said that he hopes the two groups can come to a compromise.
