Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Attorney General Jason Miyares saying Tuesday that he's launching a new public awareness initiative called "One Pill Can Kill". It's hoped that the initiative, that includes a 30 second TV and radio PSA about the dangers of fentanyl and opioid overdoses will help generate open, honest conversations among families about the threat that counterfeit drugs and opioids pose.

Miyares says that the opioid epidemic has had a devastating effect on the Commonwealth. Miyares warned of the dangers of counterfeit drugs. He says that many drug dealers will lace a Flintstones Chewable Vitamin, for example, with fentanyl.

Miyares hopes that a bill can be passed in the General Assembly that will charge a person with felony homicide who knowingly laces a piece of candy or chewable vitamin, and it leads to an overdose death.
