Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - More than 200 Richmonders received inflated car tax bills due to a software issue, which resulted in bills being based on the purchase price of the vehicle rather than its actual worth.
City officials said Tuesday morning that a total of 223 people were sent incorrect car tax bills. Each of these bills were reportedly cancelled and reissued.
A city spokesperson said impacted residents make up .07% of personal property taxpayers and own 2004 and 2005 model vehicles.
These incorrect bills follow an issue where thousands of Richmond residents received tax rebate checks with the wrong names on them. City officials say that issue won’t be resolved until the end of June.
The official responsible for overseeing the tax rebate program resigned last month.
