Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Just a little less than a month before a competitive primary, State Senator Joe Morrissey (D-Petersburg) is facing a divorce filing. Morrissey's wife Myrna filed for divorce in Henrico Circuit Court last week, and Axios reports Myrna alleges abuse as well as underage sexual relations.
According to the online publication, Myrna Morrissey claims Joe Morrissey choked her and slammed her against a wall. Morrissey has denied the allegations to Axios, and says "it breaks my heart." Morrissey was pardoned by then-Governor Ralph Northam (D) for his Alford plea to contributing to the delinquency of a minor tied to his relationship with Myrna.
Morrissey faces Lashrecse Aird in the June 20th primary. Some Democrats want Morrissey replaced because they believe he could be a swing vote on abortion rights.
