Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - If you have any leftover medicine or prescription drugs that you want to safely dispose of, you can do so Saturday, October 28 at one of several locations across Henrico and Chesterfield.

Henrico and Chesterfield Police Departments are both partnering with the Drug Administration Administration (DEA) in this year's National Drug Take Back Day. Drug take back events will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 2 p.m.

People can dispose of their unwanted or expired medication at the following locations on Saturday:

• Henrico Public Safety Building (7721 E Parham Road)
• Henrico Fairfield Library (1401 N. Laburnum Avenue)
• Wegmans (12200 Wegmans Boulevard)
• Kroger on Midlothian Turnpike

This nationwide event acts as a means of safely disposing of medications, and it also provides an opportunity for police and drug enforcement officials to educate the public about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.

The DEA says Virginia had more than 144 collection sites for the last drug take back event, which took place in April. Nationwide, the event led to the collection of more than 663,000 pounds of unused and expired medicine.
