Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - National Night Out, an annual event that happens the first Tuesday in August, is here once again. Neighborhoods across Central Virginia will be hosting block parties, cookouts, festivals, parades, and more. Police officers will be there connecting with members of the community under positive circumstances.
"Officers will stop by and mingle with the folks," says Cpl Craig Eckrich, Chesterfield County Police. "It gives us a chance to meet people in a relaxed setting, where people can get to know the person behind the badge."
National Night Out has been taking place for the past 39 years. In Virginia, 162 cities participate. Every block party is different, but festivities could include cookouts, parades, bounce houses, dance contests, safety demonstrations, and more.
