Charlottesville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Fewer than 24 hours before UVA plays its first home game since the killing of three football players last November, the Albemarle Commonwealth's Attorney has announced new charges against the man accused of killing them. Christopher Jones, a former football player from Henrico County, now faces six aggravated murder counts.
Commonwealth's Attorney James Hingeley says a special grand jury also returned two aggravated malicious wounding charges, and five use of a firearm counts. One of the the malicious wounding counts is tied to the wounding of another football player, Mike Hollins.
Hingeley says they are going with six aggravated murder counts to give them the widest latitude in presenting evidence.
UVA plays James Madison University Saturday at noon, and there will be pre-game ceremonies remembering the three players.
Jones was arrested in Henrico.
