Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia Mercury is reporting that the State Inspector General has completed the investigation into the State Police hiring of Austin Edwards. Days after Thanksgiving, Edwards, having left the force, killed three people in California while kidnapping a teenage girl he had contacted online. Edwards died as police pursued him.
State Police have admitted human errors lead to Edwards' mental health issues being missed. In December, Governor Glenn Youngkin called for a thorough investigation into the hiring. Edwards joined the Washington County Sheriff's Department in between leaving State Police and the killings.
State Senator Scott Surrovell (D-Fairfax) has taken to Twitter to call the lack of a report "unacceptable."
