Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The House of Delegates has sent a bill to Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) that would require that teachers notify parents when sexually explicit material is going to be taught, and that alternatives be offered. Youngkin ran on a platform of parental notification last year.
Opponents say the bill will have a chilling effect on what is being taught. Delegate Alfonso Lopez (D-Arlington) says teachers are not going to write up two lesson plans on the likelihood of a parent complaining, and as a result, will stick to safe topics. Supporters, however, pointed out that what they were asking notification for is the same stuff they ban state employees from downloading on their work devices.
Youngkin is expected to sign the bill.
