Chesterfield County, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Chesterfield Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred during a graduation party Friday night at a house on Stepney Road, which is just north of Thomas Dale High School. The shooting was reported around 10:21 p.m. Friday night.
Chesterfield Police Major Brad Badgerow says that police were called for shots fired, and when on scene, they found that 20 year old Taboori Carter of Chesterfield dead at the scene. Five others had gunshot-related injuries and two others suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle as they fled the scene. The investigation indicates more than 50 shots were fired at the scene.
Major Badgerow says that they initially had complaints coming from that party for loud music. But, he said they were handling a lot of other calls at that time and did not respond to the loud music complaint. He says that police found out after the fact that a party invitation had circulated via social media and that upwards of 100 people had attended the party. He says the people at the party were not all from the immediate area. Some had come from the Tri-Cities area as well.
Major Badgerow says police need help from people who may have taken cell phone video of the events leading up to the gunfire. They're also urging parents to talk to their kids if they were at this party.
