Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - AAA Mid-Atlantic says over three million Virginians are expected to travel over the Christmas holiday. The estimate is up three percent compared to 2021's numbers, but five percent behind 2019's numbers (the last before Covid). However, AAA stresses 2019 was a very well traveled year.

AAA says 90% of those traveling will be doing so by car. This comes as gas prices are hitting their lowest levels since October of 2021. The current statewide average is $3.04 a gallon, and some gas stations in the Richmond area are below three dollars.

The holiday period is considered to be December 23rd through January 2nd.
