Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Senate Judiciary, with a Democratic majority, rejected a proposal to expand parole in the Commonwealth. The rejection comes as there is continuing controversy over parole decisions made during the Northam Administration.

Parole exists in Virginia, but only for crimes that occurred before 1995. Senator Joe Morrissey (D-Petersburg) proposed expanding it to felonies between that date and now. Morrissey is a supporter of Vincent Martin, who was granted parole by the Northam Administration parole board for the killing of a Richmond Police Officer. Martin, according to supporters, had been a good prisoner prior to parole and served much more time than those convicted with him.

Attorney General Jason Miyares (R) recently released a report alleging potential crimes by the Northam Parole Board Chairwoman.
