Petersburg, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Petersburg School Board has approved a clear backpack policy for all students. The requirement, which will be in effect for the upcoming school year, will impact all students, all the way through high school. The district says it will provide the backpacks to students.
The decision follows Newport News Schools decision to also require clear backpacks. Similarly, that district will also be providing them to students. Newport News' decision follows the January shooting of teacher Abby Zwerner by a first grader at Richneck Elementary School.
Hopewell also has a clear backpack policy but it only applies to elementary school students.
