Chesterfield County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Chesterfield Police have identified the pedestrian killed on Midlothian Turnpike early Tuesday morning. Marguerite Brooks, 60, was crossing Route 60 when she was hit by a car. The driver called 911 and stayed on scene, but Brooks was pronounced dead when police arrived.

This is the third pedestrian death on this stretch of Route 60 in 2022. Sergeant Stephan Rouze of Chesterfield Police pointed out that this stretch of Midlothian Turnpike has no crosswalks and relatively poor roadway lighting. Pedestrians can stay safer, he said, by wearing bright, reflective clothing, and by assuming that drivers can't see them. Drivers can prevent crashes by staying focused and following the speed limit.
