Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Powerball jackpot has hit a world record-setting $1.9 billion, well-surpassing the previous record, $1.58 billion, set in 2016. As jackpot numbers continue to shoot up, so too do sales numbers: Virginia is expected to sell $13.4 million in tickets on Monday alone, up to 13,000 tickets per minute.
All profits from lottery sales in Virginia go to the state's K-12 education programs. Since the last win, the Powerball has raised roughly $42 million for Virginia K-12.
The next drawing will be held at 11 PM Monday.
