Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia's primary day is Tuesday. Polls will open at 6am Tuesday and stay open until 7pm. Early voting finished Saturday.

Elections Commissioner Susan Beals says they have made some improvements to their reporting website, and results will be updated in real time. Previously, results were updated every 10 minutes, according to Beals. Beals also says there is an interactive map that will show you what localities are holding primaries.

This is the first election with the new redistricted districts. Among the high profile races locally are the Democratic State Senate primary out of Petersburg featuring Senator Joe Morrissey and Lashresce Aird and the Republican primary in Chesterfield featuring State Senator Amanda Chase, former Senator Glenn Sturtevant, and Tina Ramirez. Outside of Richmond, State Senators Louise Lucas (D) and Lionel Spruill (D) face off in Hampton Roads, and Senator Creigh Deeds (D) and Delegate Sally Hudson (D) faceoff around Charlottesville.
