Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The principal of Mary Munford Elementary School has been identified as the cyclist who was rear-ended by a driver in Richmond on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, March 11 at around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to the 4400 block of Patterson Avenue for the report of a crash involving a cyclist. The cyclist has been identified as Greg Muzik, who has worked at Mary Munford for over 30 years, according to the school's website.
Investigators determined that both the cyclist – Muzik – and a car were heading west on Patterson Avenue when the cyclist moved into the travel lane in front of the car. The car then rear-ended Muzik, throwing him from his bike.
Muzik was taken to a local hospital with injuries considered life-threatening, according to a police spokesperson. The spokesperson confirmed that he is still receiving treatment as of the time of reporting.
The crash remains under investigation. Mary Munford said additional counselors and support will be on-site for students and teachers on Wednesday.
"While we do not have updates on his status at this time, we will share them, as appropriate, as soon as we are able to," a message from the school to the community Tuesday night read.
