Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - During the overnight hours on Monday, there was another pump failure at Richmond’s water treatment plant.
City leaders said Tuesday that overnight – between Monday, Jan. 13 and Tuesday, Jan. 14 – one of Richmond's four water pumps failed. The plant was left with three main pumps working with two auxiliary pumps as well, with a third one on the way.
The city attributed it to a “mechanical failure” without providing further details. Officials claim the plant is still producing enough water to meet daily demand and that the reservoir is still at operational levels. No issues with water service have yet been identified.
This comes as Richmond deals with higher-than-normal water demand following a water outage that lasted six days.
“Together, [the functioning] pumps are currently producing 68 million gallons of water daily to serve the City’s distribution network — as well as sending water to Hanover and Henrico counties,” the city said in a press release. “That volume is greater than the average water consumption for this time of year.”
