Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) is looking for families that will be home for the Thanksgiving holiday and would be willing to foster a dog or cat.
RACC says it will provide all the supplies --food, crates, toys, leash, litter box, litter and more. If families decide to keep their Thanksgiving foster, adoption fees will be waived.
"It's just a nice way to break up the length of stay for the animals here and hopefully find them forever homes," says Christie Chipps-Peters, RACC director.
Richmond Animal Care and Control’s foster program for Thanksgiving runs from Nov. 19 through Dec. 1. Those interested in fostering a dog should ideally have no other pets at home, but cats can typically go to homes with or without other pets.
This year's Thanksgiving foster program comes on the heels of one of the worst years RACC has seen in terms of animal abandonment and overcrowding.
"Unfortunately, the shelter remains full," says Chipps-Peters. "The population is far superseding the space that we have, so this program does help us alleviate some of the space concern that we have."
Those interested in fostering can send an email to Robin.Young@rva.gov.
