Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) is asking for the public's help identifying the circumstances surrounding the death of a puppy in the city's East End, at the corner of Rex & Corbin St.
RACC says it received a call for service on Monday for a dead dog. Upon arriving, RACC staff discovered "strange" circumstances.
"She is a little younger than a year old, maybe ten months old. Blue brindle Pitbull," says Christie Chipps-Peters, RACC director. "She was found tied to a fire hydrant with a black nylon leash."
RACC found a knife with a sheath right near the dog's body. Her chest, neck and face had "very tiny, little linear cuts," says Chipps-Peters.
"She has abrasions on her face and neck," she says. "We can't identify the cause of death right now. We have sent her body to have a necropsy so we'll be able to define that."
RACC is asking the public for information. Anyone who might recognize the dog or have surveillance information is encouraged to contact the shelter.
"There is no way that this dog died without someone seeing someone coming or going," says Chipps-Peters. "We'd love to have that information."
