Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Republican House of Delegates leaders have sent a letter to the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission, asking them to review growing college costs. The letter specifically targets DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) positions.
In the letter, House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) and House Majority Leader Terry Kilgore (R-Gate City) say there have been reports of increasing numbers of administrative and non-instructional staff. They suggest that DEI position salaries could cover the in-state tuition costs of 1,100 students.
The letter comes on the heels of another DEI controversy, involving the Commonwealth's chief diversity officer Martin Brown. Brown told a crowd at VMI recently that "DEI is dead." Several Democrats and the NAACP are pushing for Brown to leave the position.
