Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond has launched a new online progress tracker for its purchasing card (p-card) program, with the aim of enhancing public trust in the program.
The p-card program was reset earlier this year due to past misuse and the need for greater transparency. The number of city p-cards was reduced from 320 to approximately 60, and the remaining cards have restrictions on their use.
On Monday, June 16, city officials launched a web-based tracker that provides updated information about the p-card program. The city described the tracker as a “one-stop shop” for information on the reformed program.
“We know that government accountability must be earned, every day,” said Mayor Danny Avula in a press release. “That’s why we didn’t just pause the p-card program. We took a close look at what wasn’t working and chose to rebuild something stronger and more transparent that better serves our City. This tracker is our way of inviting the public into that process and showing, in real time, the work we’re doing to fix it.”
The new p-cards have tight restrictions on their use, primarily allowing purchases only where public health and safety would be disrupted or when no other payment method is available.
