Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A former U.S. Postal Service carrier in Richmond has been sentenced to 13 months in federal prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to charges related to stealing mail.

Back in 2022, police searched the home of 40-year-old Wendy Lawrence and found stolen mail belonging to over 180 people and forged checks in the names of at least 30 others.

Court documents show she used the bank account and routing number on those checks to wire the money to her bank account and used the funds to pay for her rent, pest control and tax bill.

On Feb. 29, Lawrence pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced on May 29.
