Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Car thefts have risen close to 50% so far this year compared to last year, according to the Richmond Police Department.
In its latest crime statistics report, Richmond Police said that during the week of May 20, there were 661 reported car thefts in the City compared to the 427 in the entirety of 2023.
Police urge residents to get a steering wheel lock for their car. They also say it’s important to park in well-lit areas, lock all doors and windows, always take your keys and/or FOB with you and never leave your vehicle running and unattended.
Drivers who have their car stolen are advised to contact the police and file a police report. The report and/or case number will be needed when contacting your insurance company if you choose to file a claim.
