Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - A 90-day blitz began this past Monday and will until the middle of March. Major Donald Davenport with the Richmond Police Department says this blitz will focus on speed, mainly, as that contributes to a lot of accidents--including a large number of fatal accidents that have occurred in 2022.

He says they went through a process recently to re-certify some officers who had let their certification lapse to get more officers on the streets of the city running radar.

Major Davenport says that, like a lot of other police agencies these days, they are doing more with less. So, they've asked for more funding to bring more officers out, even if it means paying overtime. They are also partnering with the Virginia State Police in this effort. They will also have help from Chesterfield and Henrico Police.

This blitz will not just focus on speeding, but also aggressive driving, pedestrian safety, as well as impaired an inattentive driving. The blitz runs through March 12.
