Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Richmond Public Library (RPL) is set to expand and modernize what it calls a “Memory Lab,” thanks to a $900,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation.
The RPL’s Memory Lab – which is part of the national Memory Lab Network – allows people to digitize outdated media, such as old family photos and home movies, at no charge.
The grant will be used over the course of five years to expand the services and equipment available at the library’s Memory Lab. That money will also help RPL digitize a significant amount of city records and historic documents.
The library’s main branch is located on the 100 block of East Franklin Street. Right now, visitors to the lab can learn how to digitize materials, conduct oral histories, and preserve items.
