Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Starting on Tuesday, October 12, the Richmond Raceway will open again as a mass vaccination site. The Richmond/Henrico Health Department made that announcement today in anticipation of increasing demand for booster shots and the eventual availability of vaccines for those aged 5 to 11.
Richmond/Henrico Health District Nurse Manager Amy Popovich says that the hours of the clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The clinic will have shots from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. She says they will have first and second doses of all three plus the Pfizer booster for those who are eligible.
Popovich predicts that the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters will, most likely, be available by the end of the month. She also predicts that the Pfizer vaccine for young kids will be ready sometime in November.
State Vaccine Coordinator Dr. Danny Avula says that they're excited to partner again with Richmond Raceway for the site. He says it's good because it's centrally located to the city and county and it's on the bus line.
