(RICHMOND, Va.) (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond School Board member Kenya Gibson released a YouTube video on Monday saying that she plans to introduce a resolution Monday night at the Richmond School Board meeting that would put control of school construction and renovation squarely in the hands of the school district.

Currently, that control is with the Richmond city government. Gibson says the school and the city are separate entities and it would make a lot more sense if the school district had its own team on board that would work closely with architects, engineers and contractors. The city handles everything and once schools are built, it's turned over to the school board.

Gibson says the current way things are handled often leads to rushed work and over-payment of projects and the current setup has ties to political gain rather than the needs of the students.

Also, in the video, she mentioned the city's push for a casino to be built and she calls it shameful and manipulative to tie the casinos to school improvement and construction.
