Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - The Richmond SPCA received 10 dogs that were rescued from the Envigo Breeding and Research Facility in Cumberland, Virginia recently. Initially, 90 dogs were brought to that facility last Friday. Ten were kept by the SPCA, and the remaining 80 were dispersed among pet adoption and rescue organizations throughout the area and state.

Richmond SPCA Communications Director Tabitha Treloar says the dogs are in pretty good shape. Five of the ten dogs are expected to be adopted soon. The remaining five still need to be spayed before being adopted.

The dogs were used for breeding and for laboratory testing. Because that's all the dogs knew, they may not be easily adaptable to a home life. Trealor suggests the dogs go into a home where there is already a dog present.
