(Richmond, VA) - Governor Northam and transportation officials were on hand early this morning at Main Street Station in Richmond to announce the first phase of an ambitious rail initiative throughout the state.

Northam's "Transforming Rail in Virginia Program" had its first phase debut today with the Richmond to Washington DC Amtrak service leaving the station at 5:30 this morning. The governor says that this means that those who work in DC can get there before the workday begins. There will be three trains that leave Main Street Station daily, two in the morning and one in the evening.

Northam expects the service to grow over the next year and he promises that this will be the first step of many in the rail expansion program. After the comments this morning, Governor Northam and other transportation officials hopped on board the train.
