Newport News, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Hampton Roads television stations are reporting that a federal judge has decided to allow Deja Taylor to remain out on bond. Taylor is the mother of the six-year old who shot his teacher at Richneck Elementary in Newport News back in January.
Prosecutors had wanted her bond, while she awaited sentencing, revoked, saying she had tested positive for cocaine and marijuana, and missed treatment. Taylor's lawyers admitted she had, but also argued she deserved a second chance. The judge said it was her last chance.
Taylor pled guilty earlier this summer to being a drug user in possession of a gun, as well as making a false statement about being a drug user while purchasing a gun. She also has pled guilty in state court to child neglect charges. She faces sentencing for both in October.
