Newport News, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The mother of the Richneck Elementary School student accused of shooting his teacher is scheduled now to plea to the charges she faces. The Newport News Circuit Court system now shows plea hearings scheduled for Deja Taylor on August 15th.
Taylor faces charges of child neglect and reckless handling of a a gun by leaving it accessible. She has already pled guilty to related federal charges in the case. Taylor's son allegedly shot teacher Abby Zwerner back in January. Zwerner survived, but has faced multiple surgeries, and is suing the school district for $40 million.
Taylor has said her son suffers from an acute disability, later revealed to be severe ADHD.
