Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - People taking the Powhite Parkway and Downtown Expressway Friday morning will have a bigger hit to their wallets. The Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority tolls are going up across the system.
On the main tolls on the Powhite and Downtown Expressway, the tolls will go from the current $0.70 to $0.90 for EZPass users and $1.00 for those paying in cash. Other RMTA tolls are increasing as well. The State tolls on the Powhite are not changing.
The RMTA hasn't changed its tolls since 2008. The agency says revenue took a hit because of Covid, and they have nearly $100 million in maintenance and improvement needs over the next six years.
