Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards was sworn in officially on Monday afternoon. At a ceremony at City Hall, Edwards took his oath and gave a brief speech.
Mayor Stoney also spoke, praising Edwards' "character," "integrity," and "skill." He said Edwards is the kind of Police Chief who's ready for anything "in the daytime, in the nighttime, and in the prime time."
Edwards has been RPD's Acting Chief since October of 2022. He assumed the role after Chief Gerald Smith stepped down following scrutiny of RPD's handling of an alleged mass shooting plot in July 2022.
