Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Richmond detectives are conducting an investigation into a towing company they believe has been engaging in illegal practices.

Illegal towing practices include towing from unauthorized areas, charging over $135 for the initial tow, charging over $40 for a drop fee, or charging storage fees for illegal tows. Detectives are contacting suspected victims by mail, but believe even more people may have been effected. “This has been a challenging investigation,” said Third Precinct Commander Faith Flippo, Commander of RPD's Third Precinct. "This case could involve hundreds of victims."

Since this is an ongoing investigation, detectives aren't releasing the name of the company yet, but are asking that anyone who suspects they may have dealt with illegal towing practices to email towinginvestigation@rva.gov.
