Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Virginia's annual sales tax holiday runs from Friday through Sunday and back-to-school items are the primary items that will be sold tax-free, but there are some other things you can get at a reduced price.
Some of the things you can buy for back-to-school preparation include school supplies that cost $20 or less or clothing and footwear as long as they are priced at or below $100. Both will qualify for sales-tax relief.
In addition to those staples, people can take advantage of savings on hurricane preparedness items. That would include portable generators at or less than $1,000 and gas-powered chainsaws at $350 or less. In addition, chainsaw accessories will be tax-free at $60 or cheaper.
Also, energy and water efficient products will be tax-free if they are $2500 or less. Virginia has offered a sales tax break on back-to-school items since 2006. The holiday was combined with other tax-free events in 2015.
