Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The State Senate's longest serving member, Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax), is retiring. Saslaw made the expected announcement on the Senate Floor Thursday.
The Democrat has been in the General Assembly since 1976, and the State Senate since 1980. He has been Majority Leader off and on since 2008 as control of the Senate flipped back and forth.
Saslaw's retirement comes as Fairfax is losing a lot of experience in the General Assembly. Delegate Ken Plum (D-Fairfax) has also announced his retirement, having represented the county off and on since 1978.
