Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The second brush fire in as many days burned through two acres of land Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, first responders were dispatched to a reported brush fire next to the railroad tracks near Old Washington Highway and Interstate 295.
The brush fire was reportedly slow-moving and covered about two acres. Fire officials had it contained within about an hour.
On Monday night, another brush fire consumed 70 acres in Henrico County, nearly burning homes along New Market Road and Messer Road.
It was fast-moving and caused minor property and structural damage to surrounding homeowners’ fences, sheds, etc. Nearby roads were closed to traffic until 9 p.m.
More than 100 Virginia counties are currently under either a drought watch or warning. Officials say reports of brush fires are more common under these conditions.
