Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Senator Mark Warner and the AARP held a telephone town hall to inform that recent legislation has come out that will allow Medicare to negotiate the price of certain prescription drugs.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that a lot of prices won't be coming down until 2025. Some benefits will start kicking in on some drugs next year, but won't be really noticeable until a couple years from now.
A woman called the town hall from Front Royal and said that a prescription that she needs to take jumped up to $900 for three months of pills. That's a lot more than what she was recently paying. Warner told her she would have to wait a couple years for real relief but did mention that Good Rx could negotiate some lower prices in the meantime.
Warner also brought up the cost of insulin. One of his daughters has diabetes and he's seen her insulin costs go up five times over 20 plus years that she's been needing it. Warner says that Congress got the price of insulin capped for Medicare recipients, but he wants to see insulin capped for everybody.
