Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - One of the first bills to make it out of the State Senate this year would expand Virginia's "Move Over" law. The law, which originally only covered police vehicles, would under this expansion cover all vehicles on the side of the road with their flashers on.
Some Senators wondered how the proposal would be enforced. Failure to move over would be a traffic violation. Failure to move over for a police officer is a misdemeanor. Under the law currently, a driver has to shift over a lane or slow down if there is a police vehicle or tow truck on the side of the road.
The bill now heads to the House of Delegates.
